George Leggiero,
Covenant and University Circle Carillonneur
George Leggiero has served as Carillonneur at The Church of the Covenant, Cleveland, OH, since 1973. In that capacity he has provided carillon music before and after Sunday worship and other services. His playing has also celebrated weddings and marked memorial services at the church. In 1982 Mr. Leggiero was named University Circle Carillonneur, providing weekday and holiday music. Recently he has participated in the series of Tuesday noontime carillon-organ concerts at the Church of the Covenant.
Mr. Leggiero celebrated his fortieth year as Covenant Carillonneur by attending the World Carillon Federation congress in Belgium in 2014 where he was able to experience historic bells and instruments as well as the new trends in the carillon art. See the blog postings about his trip.
He directed the The Church of the Covenant's handbell choirs for 25 years. He has also directed handbell choirs at St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Cleveland Heights and The Cleveland Music School Settlement. He has been a consultant for the handbell choirs at Ratner School. Mr. Leggiero has been a member of the faculty at American Guild of English Handbell Ringers Festivals, and has served as the Guild's Ohio Chairman.
He was Artist in residence at Case Western Reserve University as recorderist with The Cleveland Baroque Soloists. He taught recorder and chamber music at The Music Settlement for over twenty years. He served as President and Music Director of the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Recorder Society.
Mr. Leggiero received his Master of Arts degree from Case Western Reserve University where he studied music history and historic performance.
